Today is the founding ceremony of Wudang Shenghong Health Preservation Centre. First of all, we would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone, especially to Dr. Fatimah Lateef who made time to grace our ceremony. On behalf of all committee members, I would like to express our sincere appreciation.
The establishment of Wudang Shenghong Health Preservation Centre marks an important milestone in the development of Taoism in Singapore. Wudang Shenghong Health Preservation Centre was formally founded in early 2009 by Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple Association, co-founded by China Wudang Taoist Association. Here, I would like to sincerely thank our co-founder, who had not only gave ardent advice to various aspects of the preparation of the Centre, but also sent outstanding martial arts teachers who enable the Centre to offer meaningful courses and promote Taoist health preservation culture.
Wudang Shenghong Health Preservation Centre may be the first institution in Singapore to dedicate itself to a healthcare theme. Health preservation is an important part of Taoist beliefs and a treasure in traditional culture. The purpose of establishing the Centre is to promote the traditional way of health and the development of health culture.
Nowadays, city dwellers struggle to cope with all kinds of stress, with the expense of health. It has been a common vicious cycle to exchange health for wealth at young age, only to spend the wealth for health as one ages. To break the cycle, our Centre intends to provide a platform for city dwellers to learn the ways of health preservation, in order to improve the quality of life, and stay away from diseases, injuries, and sub-health.
The Health Preservation Centre enrolls members of all races and religious background, aiming to unite the four races, promote life harmony and racial harmony, and help people across the nation to attain good health. The fees are co-sponsored by Lorong Koo Chye Sheng Hong Temple. Students need only pay a small fee to study at the Centre. The Centre has only been up for a few months, and we have enrolled more than 500 people from all walks of life, triggering an upsurge of Taiji learning in local context.
Yesterday, 480 students of the Centre took part in the sports event sponsored by the Taoist Federation (Singapore), and set a record of the Largest Mass Taiqi Display in Singapore Book of Records. Here, I would like to extend my appreciation to the participants for their support, and I hope that this healthy sport will be more widely promoted.
“Cultivating the body to achieve longevity” is one of the beautiful Taoist ideals. I sincerely hope that everyone here will have a healthy body and pleasant mood in jointly creating a beautiful home!
Finally, thank you again for your visit. Thank you!
